Radiodays Europe - Connecting Radio

Three radio workshops and two translation services announced

“Storytelling on Radio”, “Editorial Leadership” and  “Develop on-air Talent” are the three Sunday workshops Radiodays Europe will offer in Dublin 2014.

For the first time the conference will also have translations into French as well as Russian.

The Sunday workshops

Radiodays Europe is proud to announce that the 3 hour workshops will be hosted by top quality trainers: the award winning documentary makers Liam O´Brien and Ronan Kelly from RTÉ (Ireland), the consultant and trainer Valerie Geller (USA), and trainers from the BBC College of Journalism (UK).

The workshops are offered on Sunday afternoon 23rd of March in addition to the Radiodays Europe conference 24-25 March. Participants need to sign up for the workshops separately on the website. The workshops will have a limited number of attendees.  Read more about the workshops and registration here.

Storytelling for radio

Liam O´Brien and Ronan Kelly(RTÉ, Ireland)
The 'Documentary On One' on RTÉ Radio 1 has become one of the most successful units in the world in telling radio stories. So how do they choose their stories - and why? And how do they then shape those stories to maximize their impact on audiences?

The answers are many - and varied - but good storytelling principles apply to all genres of radio - be it news, sport, current affairs or features.

Develop your on-air talent

Valerie Geller (Consultant and Trainer, USA)
Why do your listeners choose you? In a world with many entertainment choices and where your listeners can get the same music and the latest news from other sources, how do you and your station standout, differentiate and win?

The answer: Your Talent - Compelling, entertaining personalities!

Whether your on-air personalities are new to broadcasting or have been at it for years, all talent can benefit from coaching, directing and training.

The Inside Track on being a Successful Editorial Leader
(BBC College of Journalism)

This interactive workshop is based on the training given to hundreds of editorial leaders working in BBC News. It’s designed to build confidence in those leading people in a journalistic environment, helping them to understand their role in this fast changing environment.

Senior trainers from the BBC College of Journalism will lead the workshop, which demonstrates how to communicate your goals and vision, how to help your team develop original and creative thinking in its journalism, as well as offering tips and techniques on how to give effective editorial feedback.

The first 24 sessions announced

Last week 24 of the 50 sessions at Radiodays Europe 2014 in Dublin were announced. In total almost 100 speakers are expected, including Helen Boaden, (Director of Radio, BBC, UK), Jacqueline Smit (CEO, 538 Group, Netherlands), Tony Blackburn (Radio Legend, BBC Radio 2, UK), Annika Nyberg, (Media Director, EBU) Chris Bannon (VP of Content Development, WNYC, USA), Martin Liss, (National Program Director, Energy, Germany) and Mike Fitzpatrick (Head of Content, Triple M Network, Australia).

Connecting Radio

This year's Radiodays Europe is about Connecting Radio: from connecting with radio colleagues from Europe and the World, to greater opportunities to connect with new ideas and the look of the future. Connecting Radio is also about what radio does best, how to engage and stay connected with the listeners in new ways. And, of course, radio´s connected digital future.

Translations to French and Russian

Though the working language of the conference is English, there will be simultaneous translations to two languages; French and Russian. All sessions in the main hall will be translated thanks to support by our partners:

“Les Radios Francophones Publiques” (RFP, The French speaking Public Radios Radio-Canada, Radio France, RTBF, Belgium and Radio Television Suisse)and the “Russian Academy of Radio” (RAR) in cooperation with Russian holding companies.
