Mobile apps are more than just live radio

Mobile apps have become massive parts of everyone's lives. Radio stations have enthusiastically joined the fray with almost every broadcaster having a streaming app. But should broadcasters be doing more with their apps?

Joel Sucherman, Senior Director, Digital Developments at NPR talked about NPR One. It's an app that re-aggregates all of their content and delivers a new stream based on previous listening, skipping and interaction.

They've found the more personalised they make it and the more local the content, the more listening there is. The data that comes out of the app also helps provides knowledge for news teams, showing whether people are skipping, or wanting more.

Onmy's Head of Product, Long Zheng, argued that the new digital environment means radio is competing with content on other platforms but with richer experiences.
