Hybrid radio in the car

Connected cars, mobile apps, youth engagement, new entrants, competition, collaboration - they're the hot topics of today and there's a link from all of them to Hybrid Radio.

Hybrid Radio connects broadcast radio with IP allowing the best of both worlds to be provided to listeners.

Nick Piggott from RadioDNS flagged up the current danger from connected cars. It isn't that FM/DAB radio will disappear, but that it will be moved down the menu as the IP “experience” is better. However, if the radios know about your station then it can pull radio logos, now playing info and more over the IP channel.

RadioDNS works with in-car manufacturers as well as mobile phone companies to ensure that IP and broadcast hardware - radios - are RadioDNS enabled, making it very simple for stations to signal their metadata and be included as standard.
